For all of us at IRI Africa, our favorite day of the year – Africa Day – is coming to a close.

IRI staff and partners across the continent took the day to celebrate the rich history and cultures of the region we love, to reflect on its unlimited potential and to take a look back on our work this year to support democracy in Africa.

In light of this year’s Africa Day theme of “Harnessing the demographic dividend through investments in youth”, we kicked off our Generation Democracy conference for Southern Africa in Johannesburg this morning with an amazing group of young leaders from Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Over the next few days, they will work together to share experiences across borders, articulate their values and objectives for youth engagement in the Southern Africa region, and to build their skills in advancing the youth agenda.

From Hargeisa, Nairobi, Kampala, Dar es Salaam, Johannesburg, Bangui, Kinshasa, Bamako, and Washington, DC, Happy Africa Day!
